A FiveM server is more than a GTA map with a few scripts. The server artifact runs the game, txAdmin manages it, and your resources define the experience players join.
Start with a clean test instance. Getting a basic server working first makes it much easier to identify the source of problems when you add a framework, database, and dozens of resources.
Start with the recommended FXServer artifact and txAdmin.
Get a current recommended FXServer artifact, start it through your host's supported method, link txAdmin to your Cfx account, register the server through the Cfx Portal, and deploy a basic recipe. Confirm the server works before adding a roleplay framework.
FiveM dedicated serversCheck the hosting environment
Choose a host that supports the FXServer runtime and your intended platform. On managed hosting, use the provided startup action, port assignments, and txAdmin access rather than assuming a self-hosted tutorial's paths match.
Make sure you control the Cfx account that will register the server. Keep panel credentials, registration keys, and database credentials private.
Launch FXServer and complete txAdmin setup
Download the current recommended artifact from Cfx's documentation if you manage the installation yourself. Start FXServer in the txAdmin-supported mode. The console provides a setup URL and PIN; on managed hosting the provider may expose the URL separately.
Link your Cfx account, select a basic deployment recipe, create the server registration key in the Cfx Portal, and finish deployment. Follow the portal's current licensing terms and registration process.
Test before installing a roleplay framework
Run the basic server and join it from FiveM. Verify that players can connect, txAdmin can manage the instance, and the correct networking endpoints are reachable. Keep a copy of the working configuration.
Only after the baseline works should you install ESX, QBCore, Qbox, or other frameworks. Each has its own database and dependency requirements; do not mix recipes without checking compatibility.
Prepare for a public launch
Define admin roles with least privilege, set up backups for server data and any databases, review resource licenses, and agree on a restart schedule. Test configuration changes in a staging copy when possible.
Updates to artifacts, frameworks, and resources should be made one layer at a time with a rollback available. A stable first weekend matters more than launching with every script you can find.
A couple more questions
Do I need to install txAdmin separately?
No. txAdmin is bundled with supported FXServer builds. Follow your provider's setup instructions if it is managed hosting.
Do I need a database for a basic FiveM server?
Not always. Many roleplay frameworks require a database, but a basic server recipe is a useful first connectivity test.
